Meet Cookie

While working for the Franciscan Friars in their Development office,
Ruth “Cookie” Vogelpohl saw a gentleman digging through the
garbage can and emerge with a half eaten bag of hamburgers. The
gentleman walked down the street, sat on a stoop and proceeded to eat the contents. Cookie could not get the image of the gentleman out of her mind and was speaking of the event to her aunt, Sr. Clara, and remarked, “Someone needs to do something.” Her aunt responded to her saying, “You are someone, Cookie.”

With the help of her father, Ben, friends and other family members, Cookie found and rehabbed a basement on Logan Street and Our Daily Bread was born. Cookie and those who volunteered were witness to many mini miracles during those days. Cookie states that those miracles were only to get us ready for the miracles to come! Practically every day, if you watch closely!
