Dear Friend,
At Our Daily Bread, we feed people.
As Cincinnati’s largest soup kitchen serving 400-500 home-cooked meals a day, we served 133,000 meals in 2018 – an impressive feat considering that 100% of the food for these meals is donated, and the majority of this food is edible surplus food that would otherwise go to waste.
The fact that we rescue surplus food and transform it into nutritious meals gave us the idea of challenging local chefs to cook under the same conditions.
Last year we took this idea, partnered with Rhinegeist Brewery, and created the SCRAPS: Rescued Food Cook-Off, a one-day event with two competitions; a live chef battle and a cook-off battle. This sold-out event was wildly successful and raised $45,000! This year we are doing it again and opening up an additional 100 seats.
Only 300 Tickets Available!
We will sell 50 tickets to the live VIP Chef Battle where 2 chefs will battle it out head-to-head in a “chopped” style competition in front of a live audience and celebrity judges panel at Our Daily Bread. These 2 chefs will have one hour to make a complete meal using only rescued food. Meanwhile, at Rhinegeist, 250 guests will sink their teeth into “by-the-bite” dishes created with rescued food by chefs from 10 of the hottest restaurants in Cincinnati. Each chef will receive a mystery ingredient from a participating food sponsor in advance and throw-down to create a unique dish.
All attendees can try all 10 bites (with complimentary Rhinegeist beer pairings) and vote on their favorite. They can also enjoy the Chef Battle either live (VIP ticket) at Our Daily Bread or live-streamed (General Admission ticket) at Rhinegeist. The event will cap off with the presentation of the winners of the Chef Battle and the Rescued Food Cook-Off.
We couldn’t do this alone!
The chefs are donating their talent. Our vendors are donating the food. The judges are lending their expertise. Rhinegeist is providing both the amazing location and beer pairings. Our main goals are to celebrate the new culinary talent in our neighborhood while raising awareness and support for Our Daily Bread’s mission.
