Too often kids -especially kids who live in neighborhoods that lack safe spaces to play – spend their precious summer days cooped up inside with their noses glued to a screen. This can make summertime feel endless.
For the kids of Kids Club, summertime 2017 is going by in a flash of adventure! Thanks to a generous grant and the fearless leadership of Ms. Kate, Mr. Logan, Mr. Jimmy and countless volunteers, this summer is packed full of memories that will last a lifetime.
In June, the kids spent time connecting with nature at the Cincinnati Nature Center, they learned about nature (especially BEES!) thanks to a fabulous WumpMucket puppet show, they cooled off with a movie and popcorn (Cars 3) and learned about history at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. They also challenged themselves at the University of Cincinnati climbing wall. “J”, age 6, said, “I felt scared at first, but after about two times I felt safe. It was cool. Everyone was on the ground looking and cheering for me and I felt good and proud.”
In July, the fun continued with a builder’s workshop and ice cream floats, tumbling and gymnastics, photography lessons and a visit to Sawyer Pointe Aquatic Park. Up next: a visit to Cincinnati favorite, Cincinnati Zoo (fingers crossed for a Baby Fiona sighting!)
Summertime belongs to long days, cool nights, and ice cream. It belongs to baseball games, climbing trees, and mosquito bites. More than anything, summertime belongs to kids. Thanks to Kids Club, this summer will be one our kids never forget.
