Today is National Random Acts of Kindness Day!
At Our Daily Bread, kindness is more than random. It is embedded in everything we do. From the time our guests enter the building each morning they are welcomed with kindness. Whether it is cold or hot outside; raining or snowing; or whether they slept outside, in a shelter or they have a place to call home, they know that Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen and Social Center is a place of refuge, serving up stability, hope and kindness each day.
Read The Ragpicker below for some kindness inspiration and for today’s action, we challenge you to spread a little love by being randomly kind to a stranger. Because “no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” (Aesop)

Still, in this day of soaring prices for paper and metals,
I would imagine that a ragpicker or junk man could do quite well for himself.
However, I am not that sort of ragpicker.
I seek more valuable materials than old newspapers and aluminum beer cans.
I search out waste materials of the human kind,
people who have been discarded by others,
or even themselves, people who still have great potential
but have lost their self-esteem and their desire for a better life.
When I find them I try to change their lives for the better,
give them a new sense of hope and direction,
and help them return from their living death … which to me is the greatest miracle in the world.
